






And let my ‘Individual talent’ sit, nurtured by and in its immediate ‘ecology’, which includes my personal responses to ancient and modern artists (I use these word broadly) and designs in the historical tradition. Whether I follow that tradition, reshape it, make it new (or perhaps old) is irrelevant.
These influences – which are self-evident - echo around us, what we choose (or not) to model ourselves on, what impulses we follow (or stumble across), what inflections we ‘borrow’ (unconsciously or not) are out of our hands.
I believe 'creating' takes place between the no longer and the not yet, in the in-between zone between wilful, conscious creative practice and the not necessarily conscious yearning for transformation and change.

What do we choose to see?
What do we choose to remain hidden?
How do we choose to represent our art?
Do we have a ‘true’ choice?
What do we choose to say through our work?
What ‘acts us’?
…the past should be altered by the present as much as the present is directed by the past.

The little blocks will go to create a large structure; as a touring art-piece.
The little tags/words (full of your thoughts as you worked the bias block; wisdoms, anecdotes and memories, ideas, epiphanies, musings, etc.) will be preserved as a testimony to the unique and special world of hand-knitting and hand-knitters.
